What inspired you to become a hair stylist?

I became a hair stylist because I was incredibly passionate about styling my own hair and it brought me so much joy and creativity.

How long have you been in the industry?

​

I've been in the industry for 17 years. Having to step off the floor was tough, but I'm finding new ways to fuel my passion and I absolutely love getting on the floor whenever I can.

What is your favorite part about owning HAIR IN MAPUA?

​

The incredible team I have. We not only share the same values, but we also have a lot of fun together. The salon is filled with such a positive and supportive atmosphere. And of course, I can't forget about our amazing clients and their continued support. I truly appreciate each and every one of them!

What is your specialty?

​

My specialty is definitely cutting hair. I absolutely love it, each cut is a unique opportunity to express my creativity and showcase my skills. It's like creating a work of art!

What do you enjoy most about interacting with clients?

​

It's the opportunity to connect with different people and have fun conversations. Hearing their stories and getting to know them on a personal level is incredibly fulfilling. Every client brings something unique to the chair, and it's always exciting to create a hairstyle that reflects their personality and makes them feel amazing.

How do you stay up to date with the latest trends in the industry?

Staying up to date with the latest trends is so important in our industry, and we make sure to make it a priority. We attend training opportunities and stay updated with the latest techniques. It's all about fueling our passion and delivering the best possible service to our clients.

What inspired you to become a hair stylist?

I’ve always been fascinated by the transformative power of hairstyling and makeup. Growing up in Motueka, I found joy in helping friends and family look their best. The transformation and confidence that came with a new hairstyle or makeup look captivated me. This passion, combined with a love for creativity and personal expression, inspired me to become a hair and makeup artist. Seeing how a fresh style or a perfect look can boost someone’s confidence and bring out their inner beauty inspired me to pursue this creative and rewarding career.

How long have you been in the industry?

I’ve been in the hairdressing industry for over a decade. I started out as a qualified makeup artist and transitioned into hairdressing at the end of my qualification. I spent my teenage years volunteering in salons to gain experience, which laid a strong foundation for my career. I then moved to Christchurch to focus on makeup artistry, qualified in makeup and hairdressing and worked in various salons for 10 years, continuously honing my skills and exploring new techniques.
 
What is your favorite part about working at our salon?

My favorite part about working at Hair in Mapua is the collaborative and supportive environment. The team’s dedication to excellence and creativity perfectly aligns with my own passion for the craft, making it an inspiring place to work.

What is your specialty?

My specialties include color correction, transformative hairstyling, bridal styling/makeup, and editorial looks. I take pride in my ability to create stunning looks that enhance each client's unique beauty.

What do you enjoy most about interacting with clients?

I love building genuine connections with my clients and understanding their individual needs and desires. It’s incredibly rewarding to see their faces light up with satisfaction and confidence after a session.

How do you stay up to date with the latest trends in the industry?

I stay up to date by attending industry workshops, participating in professional development courses, following influential stylists and experimenting with new techniques. Continuous learning and adapting to trends is key in this ever-evolving field.
 
Are there any specific hair/beauty techniques or styles that you excel in?
 
I excel in advanced color correction techniques, balayage, and color melts, which are becoming the new standard in hair coloring. These techniques allow for a more natural look that clients love. Additionally, I specialize in bridal hair and makeup and creating editorial looks that are camera-ready. These skills enable me to offer a wide range of services to meet various client needs.

I finished my first year of my apprenticeship at Nmit and now I’m starting my second year at Hair In Mapua.

In all honesty I have so much more to experience before I decide that.

I enjoy how kind and inviting the clients are and building relationships with them. 

How do you stay up to date with the latest trends in the industry?

Social media is a big help and only being young most of my friends keep me with the trends.

Are there any specific hair/beauty techniques or styles that you excel in?

Once again I don’t have the experience to answer this question but I do love color transformations so far.
